DREAM Delta's Candidate Job Interview is Back ... This Time, We're Interviewing the Candidates for City Council!

Following the tremendous response to our 2026 Mayoral Candidate Job Interview, DREAM Delta is expanding the initiative to include the candidates seeking election to Delta City Council.

All City Council candidates are being invited to participate in the DREAM Delta 2026 City Council Candidate Job Interview, using the same basic idea that guided our Mayoral initiative:

Give every candidate the same opportunity. Ask every candidate the same questions. Present their answers in their own words. Let voters decide for themselves.

The response to our Mayoral Candidate Job Interview demonstrated that Delta residents are interested in learning more about the people asking for their vote. To date, the three Mayoral Candidate profiles have generated nearly 1,400 combined views on the DREAM Delta Blog, along with considerable engagement through Facebook. We've also received numerous requests from residents asking for copies of the profiles that they can print and share.

So, we're doing it again.

This Time: The Candidates for Delta City Council

Every Council candidate is being provided with the same standardized one-page template.

On the left side, candidates will provide résumé-style information about themselves, including:

  • Education
  • Employment and professional experience
  • Government and elected experience
  • Community and volunteer involvement
  • Electoral organization and mayoral candidate supported
  • Whether they reside in North Delta, Ladner, Tsawwassen, or another community

On the right side, every candidate will answer the same four questions:

1. Why did you choose to run with your current electoral organization and mayoral candidate?  75 words or fewer

2. If elected, how would you respond when your judgment on an issue differs from the position held by most of your team?  75 words or fewer

3. What do you believe is the most important issue facing Delta over the next four years, and how should Council address it?  100 words or fewer

4. North Delta has about 60% of Delta's population. Some residents question whether North Delta receives a fair share of municipal investment, amenities, infrastructure, and services compared with South Delta. What is your position on this?  100 words or fewer

These questions were deliberately chosen to go beyond campaign slogans.

We want residents to understand why candidates chose the political team they are running with, whether they are prepared to exercise independent judgment, what they believe Delta's greatest challenge will be, and how they view the distribution of municipal resources between our communities.

The Rules Are Simple

Every candidate receives:

The same template.
The same questions.
The same word limits.
The same instructions.
The same opportunity to participate.

Candidate responses will be reproduced exactly as submitted.

DREAM Delta will not edit, score, rank, interpret, compare, support, oppose, or endorse the candidates or their responses.

The objective is not to tell you what to think.

It is to give you information and let you decide for yourself.

A Different Publication Format

With potentially 15 Council candidate profiles to prepare and publish, we are changing the publication process slightly from the Mayoral Candidate Job Interview.

Rather than waiting until every submission has been received and releasing as many as 15 profiles simultaneously, we will publish each candidate's profile within 48 business hours of receiving their completed submission.

Profiles will be shared through:

  • The DREAM Delta Blog
  • Facebook and participating local community groups
  • Our DREAM Delta email subscriber list

This approach will make the project considerably more manageable AND we think it will also make the information more useful for voters.

Instead of being presented with as many as 15 profiles at once, residents will have an opportunity to read, consider, and discuss individual candidates at a more measured pace.

The order in which profiles are published has no significance whatsoever. Profiles will simply be prepared and released as candidate submissions are received and processed with a goal of producing within 48 business hours of receipt.

The Deadline

All Council candidates are being invited to participate. The deadline for completed submissions is:  NOON PACIFIC TIME, FRIDAY, AUGUST 28, 2026

Because DREAM Delta must prepare, format, and distribute each profile, submissions received after the deadline will not be completed or published.

Participation is entirely voluntary. If a candidate chooses not to participate, DREAM Delta will not attempt to complete a profile on their behalf or substitute information gathered from other sources.

Why Are We Doing This?

Municipal elections matter.

The people elected on October 17 will make decisions affecting development, taxation, infrastructure, roads, parks, recreation, public safety, municipal services and the future character of our communities.

Yet in Delta's last municipal election, fewer than 30% of eligible voters cast a ballot, with turnout in some areas barely exceeding 20%.

We can do better.

DREAM Delta believes that increasing voter participation begins with making it easier for residents to become informed.

We aren't asking you to agree with every candidate.

We aren't asking you to support a particular team.

And we certainly aren't going to tell you who deserves your vote.

We're asking you to read what the candidates have to say. Look at their backgrounds. Compare their answers. Ask questions. Talk to your neighbours. And then make your own informed decision.

Watch for the first 2026 City Council Candidate Job Interview profiles as candidate submissions begin arriving!
